What a Transformer is, explained in JavaScript
宝玉 gave Claude Code and Opus 5.5 one prompt: a JavaScript video on what a Transformer is, clear to a high-school student, detailed enough to include attention and a little math. Search if you need to. Surprise me.
The prompt is the piece, almost. 宝玉 asked Claude Code, running Opus 5.5, to make a JavaScript video titled “What is a Transformer.” It had to be clear to a high-school student and still specific: attention, and some of the math. Use any tool, install things, search the web. Surprise me.
That is a cruel brief for an explainer. High-level clarity and real mechanism usually live in different videos. Attention is easy to metaphor into uselessness — queries, keys, a library, a party — and easy to bury in notation. A good cut has to do both without winking at only one of the audiences.
Everything on screen is code, which means the diagrams can be wrong in a way a stock illustration cannot hide. The surprise he asked for is whether the model can teach.
