"Plume": a long GenAI short, finally told

Dave Clark calls “Plume” his longest fully GenAI short. He wrote, directed and edited it, after years of chasing an idea the tools could not previously hold. About 21 minutes.

Dave Clark has a sentence ready: the time for long-form narrative AI filmmaking is now. "Plume" is the evidence he is willing to put under it, his longest fully GenAI short, written, directed and edited by him, running about 21 minutes.

The more interesting sentence is the one about waiting. He had been chasing the idea for years, and this is the first time the tools could tell it the way he imagined. A long film made the week a model got good is a demo. A long film made because an old idea finally fit is a director's project.

The post does not open with a model name. It opens with the claim that the form is ready, and then with the film.

The work happened while he slept.

One prompt to Opus 5.5: he spoke to his computer for five minutes, Claude worked for twelve hours, and he woke up to a finished animated short.
