A free Catan-inspired game, with a real lobby
Meng To spent four days with Astra on a free, phone-friendly Catan-inspired game: narration, guides, expansions, and a lobby where anyone can join, chat, and talk.
A board game is a rules argument that has to survive other people. Meng To built a Catan-inspired game entirely with Astra: free to play, usable on a phone, with narration, guides, customizations, and more than one expansion. The part that makes it a game rather than a layout is the lobby, where anyone can join, type, and talk.
Four days is the other number. A multiplayer lobby, voice chat included, is a lot of unglamorous plumbing. It grew into a table strangers can sit down at.
It is inspired by Catan, not a release of that game. The resemblance is the brief. The test is whether people can actually play.
