An alt-history film dressed as recovered footage
PJ Ace’s Utopai short opens on a lie: everything you were taught about July 4th, 1776 is wrong, and the Redcoats were not soldiers. It is alternate history, played as found footage.
The opening line is a hook, not a history lesson. PJ Ace frames the short as recovered footage: everything taught about July 4th, 1776 is a lie, and the Redcoats were something other than soldiers. Utopai is the pipeline. The genre is alternate history wearing the clothes of a documentary.
That costume is the craft. Found footage only works if the image looks like it survived — bad light, the wrong lens, a cut that feels like an archive and not a trailer. Spectacle would break the premise. The film has to look slightly too ordinary for what it is claiming.
Treat the claim as the fiction it is. What is worth featuring is the control: a model pipeline pointed at tone and evidence, instead of at a battle scene.

Everything they taught you about July 4th, 1776 is a lie. The Redcoats weren't soldiers. They were something else. We recovered the real footage using Utopai 🧵👇 https://t.co/v2GFLGQqpW
